“Napping”, Kala Workshop Silkscreen Print, by Susan R. Kirshenbaum, 2016

Sometimes the feeling in the room is so quiet, relaxed, warm, and cozy I could just close my eyes along with the model…and this drawing is from one of those Zen moments. With the model’s blast of dark wavy hair and fair skin, the original drawing felt like it would translate well into a silkscreen print in two colors. I learned technique while I made this print. And I enjoyed mixing up the batch of ballet pink ink and rich black “out of the can” to communicate a sensibility of her strength tinged with delicacy.

Created in a silkscreen workshop at Kala in 2016, this is a limited edition of two-color prints on archival fine art paper with hand-torn edges. The image is from one of my life drawings, created digitally. Each print is hand-signed and numbered. Printed by the artist in Berkeley, CA, USA. © 2016 srkirshenbaum

Since 2013 I’ve shifted to drawing digitally on an iPad with a stylus. In 2015 I started Cherry Pits Art, my personal brand of digitally-created works of art.
