“Her Earrings”, Spain Workshop Etching Print, by Susan R. Kirshenbaum, 2005

During the year I lived in Girona, Spain, I drew only two models. This model is sinewy and tough-looking, with extreme tattoos and jewelry. Her counterpart was soft and curvy. I could not communicate much with either one since they spoke Catalan and I did not. While I was living there I attended a drawing group at La Merce art college, which is where I made the original drawing for this etching. Working closely with a Master Printer, I created this limited edition of etchings in a tiny Catalan village studio. I commissioned this toothy paper, made to my specifications for this edition, by a Master Papermaker in another tiny village. Each print is signed and numbered. Edition of 15 prints made by hand by the artist, in Spain.

This etching was created working in the studio of a local Master Printer during my pre-digital era while living in Girona and Barcelona. After a couple of years there, in 2006 I returned to my home base, San Francisco, CA, USA where I continued my weekly life drawing sessions. I switched over to drawing digitally in 2013, on an iPad with a stylus.
